Deacon & Dudley {Taiwan}

We met brothers Deacon and Dudley for the first time in November – and what adorable brothers they are! Deacon turned 7 at the beginning of this year, and Dudley is 5. They lived together in the children’s home and enjoy spending time together.

Deacon is in the 1st grade and does really well at school. He participates well in class, and his teacher reports that he is a good learner and helper. Deacon loves the color blue, Transformers, and watching cartoons. He also really loves playing outside – he enjoyed telling me all about playing on the playground and how much he loves the slides and hanging by his feet on the monkey bars! He also likes playing tag and soccer with his friends, and going swimming. We might have a future athlete here!

While he was a little shy at first, Dudley did well on the tasks we asked him to do. When his caregivers told us he can count to 50, he was happy to demonstrate and then just kept right on counting, surprising even his caregivers! Looks like someone has been paying attention in kindergarten! Like his brother, Dudley loves being active and playing outside. He told me that helping others makes him happy, and that he is afraid of the dark.

 Deacon and Dudley have no medical needs. Could these fun, silly, active brothers be your sons? Reach out to mary.chapman@gladney.org for more information on Deacon and Dudley!

World Down Syndrome Day! {Pierce}

It is World down Syndrome Day and we are rocking the crazy socks at our house!

I have been waiting to introduce a very special little boy who has Down syndrome and I thought today would be the perfect day to introduce him. His name is Pierce and he just turned 4 years old. And he wants you to know that there is #nothingdownaboutme!

This sweet little guy is waiting for his family in China. He is an active little boy who loves to play outside. He is attached to his foster mom and responds well to her instructions. He isn't talking much yet, but  he can vocalize and say a few words.

He can hold a crayon and imitate lines and shapes when they are drawn. He likes to listen to music and dance.

Pierce has a $4,000 grant through Gladney!

Pierce is from an orphanage Superkids has visited many times. This precious boy needs a family to provide the love and support he will need throughout life. Please celebrate this special day by asking us for more information about how to make him your son! Contact us at superkids@gladney.org, we look forward to hearing from you!

Family Friday!

We have matches to announce!! Congratulations are in order!

Mel & Milton {Taiwan}

Are you ready for this? Two boys, brothers, both smart and funny and polite. What is not to love?!

We have posted about Mel & Milton before, you can read that post here. These amazing brothers are still waiting for their family to see them.

Mel is 13 years old. he told us he likes to draw, so we asked him to draw something for us. He quickly drew this soaring bird while we watched in amazement. This was just a quick sketch. This boy really does like to draw!

He wants to be a chef when he grows up. And he especially likes to bake cookies. His favorite books to read are the Harry Potter books. Is anyone else thinking he sounds pretty awesome?

Milton is 9 and is a lively, active little guy. When we asked him what he wants to be when he grows up he didn't really answer the question, but he told us his brother wants to be a chef... and he wants to be with his brother. When we last saw him he brought the Lego set we had given him the time before when we were there. He was so proud to show us that it was all put together and that he still had it.

Neither of these boys have a medical diagnosis. There only real "need" is that they are older boys. Think about that. Think about boys this age that you know and how much they need parents. Ask yourself if you, or someone you know could be the right family for these amazing boys.

Murphy! {Taiwan}

I was excited to meet with Murphy again during our trip in November. We first met Murphy a year earlier (you can read about that visit here), so I was looking forward to seeing how he had grown.

And boy has he grown – we met with him just a few days after his 4th birthday and he’s really starting to look like a “big kid”. And he is now wearing the most adorable blue glasses!

Murphy was matching colors and naming them. His favorite color is green. He was running and jumping and kicking a ball. He strung beads for us, and built a pretty tall block tower. Murphy roared like a lion and meowed like a cat when shown stuffed animals – too cute! He was also more talkative with us this time. His caregivers say that his speech is clear and age-appropriate.

Murphy is an active kiddo who loves playing outside the best. He loves pizza and poutine. He attends pre-school and gets along with his classmates. Murphy has some delays, and is diagnosed with hydrocephalus and neurofibromatosis type 1.

Could Murphy be your son? Please email mary.chapman@gladney.org to learn more about Murphy.

Peter

Peter is a 5 year old boy who likes to play outside. His files states that when he is walking he likes to slow down to see beautiful things. He likes colorful blocks and pretty flowers. He seems like such a sweet little guy!

He is developmentally delayed and his file indicates that his speech is delayed. His motor development also seems delayed, but his vision is low in one eye due to phacoscotusmus, a clouding of the eye lens, so it seems reasonable to assume some of his motor delays may come from low vision.

Peter dresses himself and takes care of all self-care needs. He jumps and runs and goes up and down stairs. He can copy shapes and draw a straight line.

This sweet little guy needs a family to see him and step forward to provide the medical and developmental supports he needs in order to thrive!

Poppy

She is gorgeous. There is no other way to describe Poppy. She is gorgeous. But she is also sweet. Her caregivers describe her as a quiet, happy little girl who loves to play with other children.

Poppy just turned 5 and her file indicates that she has developmental delays. She understands simple instructions and says easy words. She walks independently but her file indicates that she may have an unusual "scissor gait". She is getting rehabilitation daily.

This darling little girl likes listening to music and playing with other children. She especially loves to be outside. She needs a family who is open to some unknowns, but who is willing to take a chance on loving this little beauty.
