Oriana

Oriana is almost 4 years old. We just got a sweet update that included a video. She sounds like a darling little girl who doing well.

Her need is listed as thoracic hemangioma and her file also mentions mild torticollis. We have photos of her hemangioma that we will happily share with interested families.

According to the update we just received Oriana is able to communicate well. Her speech is clear and easy to understand and she easily understand what is said to her. She can recognize and name animals and shapes, she knows her colors and can count to 10.

Her coordination is good. She walks, runs, hops, and can stand on one leg. She is in Kindergarten at the orphanage. She gets along well with her peers.

Oriana is described as having a very cheerful personality. She is workable for her teachers and caregivers and smiles easily.

Meet Alec {Taiwan}

Over in our private Taiwan Facebook group (be sure to join for pictures and videos we can't share publicly!) we asked for help to give this little guy an advocacy name. Alec was the clear favorite of the 3 names we asked you to choose from, so today we are introducing Alec!

Alec is 4 years old and is an easy-going fun little boy. He likes to play with spinning tops and little cars. When we showed him a picture with animals doing different things he easily identified what each type of animal was doing. He speaks in long sentences but his speech is a little hard to understand.

He copied shapes for us and did a little lacing card quite nicely. He stacked blocks, ran, jumped, climbed and did all of the typical 4 year old boy stuff.

Adam {Taiwan}

Adam is a handsome 7 year old boy whose favorite subject is PE, especially running. He likes to do puzzles and is described as creative and obedient. This sweet little guy is very considerate of his foster mom and very attached to her.

He is in the 1st grade and is doing well. Even though he can be quite active he has a good attention span. He wrote his name very neatly for us and drew a cute little truck. He is learning to read.

His file indicates that he may have some developmental delays, but we did not observe anything that was concerning. He did everything we asked him to do willingly and he makes average grades in school. His strongest subject is math.

He excelled at all of the running, jumping, walking on a line type of stuff and had us all laughing at his funny faces as he made sure we knew this stuff was easy for him!

Oscar

Oscar is a 2 year old baby boy who is described as happy and easy-going. His file states that when he first arrived he was quiet and shy, but with time he settled in and is now outgoing and laughs easily. He likes to listen to music and raise his arms and sway "just like dancing."

Oscar has Down syndrome. He was rolling and crawling, but not yet walking when his file was prepared, when he was about 18 months old.

He likes to play with noisy toys and can hold toys and bang them together. He understands what is being said to him but is not yet speaking. He can find hidden objects and understands what no means.

Avril {Taiwan}

Avril came into the room giggling when we met her last month. I don't know what she thought was funny, but she was covering her little mouth with her hand and giggling. It was absolutely adorable.

She just turned 5 and has CHD, she has had surgery, but will need continuing care. She is a smart, active, cute little thing who knows exactly what she wants and how she wants it. I am sure her lively spirit has served her well through the times she has spent n the hospital.

She counts blocks and stacks them, but most enjoys knocking the stacks over. She likes to play house with dolls and even loaded some little blocks into a stroller and said she was taking them to school. She is very imaginative.

She enjoys school and likes to play with other children, though the staff did say she also likes to play by herself sometimes.

She did well with walking, running, and jumping. She threw and caught a ball. She seemed to have plenty of energy. Her caregivers told us she still sleeps with oxygen though they do not think she really needs it. She does have some clubbing of her fingers and toes.

This little sweetheart needs a family to get her the best medical care she can have and help her live a long, fulfilling life. Could she be your daughter? Lyle

We have met Lyle several times. The last time was in October of 2016. We recently decided to check up on some of "our" kids that we have met to see if they are on still waiting for families. Lyle is one of the children who is still waiting.

He is now 5 years old. He is a happy child who laughs easily. He like fast-paced music and he likes to  dance to the music. When we last saw him he was in a foster home where he was doing well.

You can read the posts we wrote about him previously here and here. Lyle has multiple medical needs including a possible chromosomal disorder. He is developmentally delayed, but not by that much! He seems to be doing really well!

Amelia {Taiwan}

Amelia is one of the children we met for the first time when we were in Taiwan recently. And what a sweet girl! She is 9 years old and I had such a great time helping her make a headband and put on makeup! She was super sweet and excited about it then when she went into the other room and talked to Mary she said one of her favorite things is putting on makeup. How sweet is that?!

She was born prematurely and has a repaired cleft lip and palate. She does well in school and is in the 3rd grade. She sometimes gets frustrated because she tends to be a bit perfectionistic. Oh yeah, and she doesn't like to wash dishes. Nothing too unusual there!

She drew this beautiful girl for us and did it very carefully. We could easily see that she likes to do things right and doesn't want to make mistakes.

She has a sunny, happy personality and was a joy to spend time with. She was so happy to take some Legos with her and made sure to tell us die xie (thank you) before leaving.
