Happy Hope

Hope is such an outgoing, happy little girl! She loved coloring in the coloring books we had with us when we visited with her in September and especially liked if one of us would sit and color with her.

She is almost 10 years old. She has albinism. She does well in school and says that her favorite subject is math.

Her foster mom described her as outgoing, affectionate, and talkative. She gets along well with other children.

Her favorite activity is hula hooping and her favorite food is bean sprouts. Her speech is clear and easy to understand. She follows directions and is good at copying pictures.

Hope is a sweet girl who needs a family. Could she be your daughter?

Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information.

Cute Cecily!

I was going to write a post titled The Many Faces of Cecily, but then I wouldn't have been able to show you the cute crawling pictures and video, so obviously that was out.

Miss Cecily is 22 months old. She is a sweet baby girl who smiles very quickly when you play with her. She is curious and interactive.

Cecily has Aperts Syndrome. She has a hole in her palate and has fused fingers and toes. She is crawling, she sits with support, and loves grabbing toys and playing with them.

We met Cecily in September and our pediatric PT will be glad to speak with anyone interested in learning more about her!

Could Cecily be your daughter? For more information about adopting Cecily please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org .

Superkids Advocacy Camp!

We have been thinking and dreaming about ways to benefit more kids and help to families be better prepared for adoption and we are so excited to announce that we are going to be hosting our very first:

Superkids Advocacy Camp

What is an advocacy camp? Well, I'm glad you asked! It is an opportunity for prospective adoptive parents to travel to China to meet and interact with children. You then have the opportunity to advocate to find a family for a child who might otherwise be overlooked.

You will have an opportunity to visit two orphanages and to interact with children in each of these places. You will be able to do projects and play with children in an environment that is familiar to them. I promise, your participation will impact the life of these children!

So the details:

When: April 9-17, 2016
Where: Changsha #1 Social Welfare Institute in the Hunan Province and the Shanghai Children's Home

We are looking for prospective adoptive parents who are interested in meeting and interacting with children who are available for adoption. Parents with a completed homestudy are preferred. Parents without a homestudy are also welcome to join us.

Please contact Mary Chapman at mary.chapman@gladney.org for more information!

A Few Of Our Older Girls

Magnificent Mac {Taiwan}

Mac is a 10 year old boy who is currently living in foster care. He is described as having a gentle and strong nature. He attends school and is even learning some English. He enjoys playing with his foster brother and swimming in the community pool. He likes to play games on the computer and watch cartoons.

Mac needs a family where he can feel safe and loved. He has four younger siblings who are also available for adoption, however as he does not have much of a relationship with them, it is suggested that Mac be placed in a separate family.

Mac has experienced some difficult things in the past and sometimes acts out because of them. Detailed reports are available. Mac is suspected to have ADHD and some mild learning delays.
For more information on Mac, including photos, please contact Taiwan Program Caseworker, Mary Chapman, at mary.chapman@gladney.org

Meet Lars

This is Lars. Isn't he a cutie? Lars just turned 3, wouldn't it be amazing if he was home by his next birthday?!

Lars has Beta Thalassemia, he gets monthly blood transfusions. This sweet little boy desperately needs a family so that he can get the medical care he needs. This is a need that is rarely treated well in China and the sooner this sweet boy comes home the better!

Lars is crawling, but not yet walking. He is pretty shy with strangers but very attached to his caregiver. He did really like the lollipops we had with us! He banged blocks together and stood with assistance when we met him in September.

Could this little boy be your son? Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.com for more information.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Chloe!

As I was looking through our sweet children trying to decide whose beautiful little face should go on the blog next I realized that one of our babies is having a birthday today!

Happy birthday, sweetie!

Chloe is 2 today. She has down syndrome. She is a cuddly friendly little baby, who babbles, smiles, laughs, and waves hello. She can crawl and is very active! She loves toys with sounds and is not afraid of strangers.

She is an interactive little lady and likes looking at herself in the mirror. I mean, do you blame her!? Just look at that little face!

Chloe needs a family who will cherish her for the perfect little girl she is. Let's make sure she is home to celebrate her 3rd birthday in style with her very own family!

Logan is a smart little fellow who follows simple commands and is starting to say a few words. He finds hidden objects, bangs toys together, and waves bye-bye.

He is walking independently and even running. he throws and kicks balls and can scribble with a crayon. He enjoys playing with blocks.

Monday Morning Matches!

Happy news on a Monday morning! We have matches to announce!

It brings us such joy to see these children we love being chosen by families! Congratulations to all! All of us are over the moon excited for all of you!

Nick is a 20 month old baby boy who needs a family. He is a cute little peanut, but unfortunately we can't post a picture here since he is from an orphanage that has requested we don't post pictures publicly.

Nick has congenital cataracts. He can crawl and sit by himself. He can stand while holding on to something for support.

He turns to sounds and recognizes his name. He can hold blocks in both hands and transfer toys from one hand to the other.

He is described as active and playful. He likes music and playing "parent-offspring games" with his caregivers. He sounds like he needs a mommy and daddy to play games with!

Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information!

Reagan is a lovely almost 13 year old girl who likes to dance and even won an award for her dancing a couple of years ago. Her caregivers say she is "always happy and upbeat".

She is very outgoing and friendly. She has a lot of friends and is like an older sister to the younger ones in the orphanage.

Reagan has no known health concerns. She attends public school where she is in the fourth grade. Her favorite subject is music. Like most teens though, she doesn’t like homework.

Reagan only has one year before she turns 14, at which point she will no longer be eligible for adoption. Please help us find Reagan's family!

Could she be your daughter? Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information.

Rylan is one of the boys we met on our last trip to China that I've been looking forward to introducing to you! There are so many great things about this little boy!

Rylan is 10 years old. He is a very smart little boy whom the caregivers described as "the king of the class" at school. He can read and write. He is a little shy around strangers but warms up fairly quickly.

Rylan is deaf and received a cochlear implant in Aprilof 2014, he is undergoing therapy and learning to speak. He went to a school for the deaf until recently but now attends public school. He indicated that the change was difficult for him since he had to make new friends.

He enjoyed playing with the Lego sets we had with us and even combined sets so that he could build more complex things. He also enjoyed playing with balls and throwing them back and forth.

Rylan is a great little boy who needs a family! Could he be your son? Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information!

And please share this post! Let's find Rylan's family together!

Hannah {Under Consideration}

Just look at this little sweetie!

Hannah is a lovely 2 years old girl who likes to play with blocks. She walks independently and can pick up toys that fall to the floor. She can get blocks out of their container, bang them together, put them away and close the container. That sounds pretty good for a 2 year old to me! She is curios about new toys and when she is finished playing with toys she helps to put them away.

She is learning to speak and says simple words such as mama and jie jie. She sometimes imitates 3-5 words sentences. She understands what what is said to her and follows simple instructions.

Hannah has complex CHD. She appears to be developing well and to be such a sweet, quiet little girl!

Could this precious little girl be your daughter? For additional information please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org.

Meet Mitch! {Taiwan}

Mitch is an adorable and energetic 7 year old boy who is waiting for his forever family. He loves school and is a quick learner. He received all A’s on his last report card! He strives to excel in everything he tackles. He enjoys lending a helping hand and being independent in his tasks.

Mitch lived with his birth grandmother until he was 5 years old. He misses her and can’t wait to have a family again. He is healthy with no medical needs. He is working with his counselor and teachers to learn to better understand and control his emotions.

For more information on Mitch, please contact Taiwan Program Caseworker Mary Chapman at mary.chapman@gladney.org.

Looking Forward to 2016!

It is a brand new year with new hopes and goals and dreams... and new families to be formed... and new children to be seen and loved!

We have some exciting new things on the horizon!

We have a lovely Gala coming up in March where you will be invited to partner with us and learn more about our vision and mission.

Our next trip to China and Taiwan is planned for the middle of April. Martha Osborne from the Rainbowkids website is planning to join us on this trip. She is a strong, amazing advocate for waiting children (and a Gladney mom!) and we are thrilled to have her joining us!

Martha with Gladney adoptive parents at last year's Gala.

We are coming up with new ways that you can be involved in advocating for our kids! Again, details to come, but we are pretty excited about it!

And mostly we plan to keep on working to expand our influence and advocacy for the good of the children in China and Taiwan!

We believe 2016 is going to be a fabulous year!

Holly is a beautiful 16 month old baby girl. She is described as quiet and as having a ready smile.

She can roll over and go from lying down to a sitting position. She crawls though her crawling position is a little unusual due to her special need. She responds when her name is called. She has a good pincer grasp and can put blocks in a cup.

Holly has brachial plexus that affects her left arm, and a foot deformity. She has had surgery to improve both of these issues. She also has a PFO. Though she has several diagnosis little Holly seems to be doing very well. Our pediatric physical therapist will be glad to speak with any interested families.

She likes to play with rattles and laughs aloud. If other children take her toys she will cry.

Could this little sweetheart be your daughter? Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information.

Monday Morning Matches!

Here we are again, Monday morning with a bunch of matches to announce!

The rest we can't show photos of, but want to announce the great news that...

The Twins! Natalie and Nicole!

Also have families! Congratulations to these wonderful children and their new families!

Gil At Last!

Gil is one of our sweet little boys whom we have met many times. I think the first time I remember playing with him we just went into his room to see another child. There he was with his cute little grin and we snapped pictures and played for a bit before we had to move on. That was in 2013.

We have met him several times since then and requested that his paperwork be prepared, so we are really excited to say that he is now available for adoption!

Gil has beta thalassemia. He is getting monthly blood transfusions right now. He will be 7 very soon, wouldn't it be great if he celebrated his next birthday with his new family!?

Gil is a smiley little boy who loves drawing, coloring, and putting together puzzles. He speaks very clearly and follows directions. He takes care of his own personal needs. He can count to 100 and is learning to read.

Could Gil be your son? Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information.

Renae {Urgent! Aging Out!}

Renae is a lovely girl whom we met at one of our new partnership orphanages last time we were in China. She turned 13 in September, so the time to find her family is limited! A family must adopt her before her 14th birthday or she will no longer be eligible for adoption.

Renae attends public middle school where she is reported to be above average in her school work and this was certainly borne out in the cognitive testing our team did with her. She seemed to be very smart!

She loves to read, and while she has friends at school, sometimes she would rather read by herself than do homework with her friends.

When we first met her she was very reserved, but as she watched us interacting with the other children she became more comfortable and ended up making a necklace with the beads we had with us.

Renae has a repaired cleft lip and palate. She also wears glasses which is something we don't see often in orphanages!

Renae needs a family! Could she be your daughter? We need help sharing Renae's story so that she does not reach her 14th birthday without a family!

Please contact April Uduhiri at april.uduhiri@gladney.org for more information.
