Draydon Update {Taiwan}

We wrote a post about Draydon back in September. You can read it here. Since then we got to spend time with him in November. He is a quiet little guy who is described by his foster mom as happy, smart, well-behaved, and talkative.

He answered our questions thoughtfully and used quite a few English words. He likes playing outside, with dodge ball being his favorite game. He enjoys running and playing tag.

Draydon is 8 years old. He takes medicine for ADHD, which seems to control it well. He does well at and really likes school, where his favorite subjects are science and social studies. He has a lot of friends. He is the only child in his foster home and he enjoys going to school to be with other children.

Can we just talk about these eyelashes for a couple of seconds? Look at how handsome this sweet boy is!

Draydon needs a family where he can fit in and thrive. He is such a sweet kid! Please contact us at mary.chapman@gladney.org for more information about him. And don't forget to join our private Facebook group where we can share more pictures and videos showing his face.

Meet Edmund!

Look at this cute baby boy! He looks like he needs a mommy to hold him and cuddle him, doesn't he?

This is Edmund. He is 2 years old and his file indicates that, even hough he doesn't talk much yet, he likes to have interaction with people and will babble when someone speaks to him.

He has post-operative CHD and hand deformities. He sits independently and crawls, but is not yet walking. He picks up small objects such as snacks with his hands and can feed himself finger foods.

Look at that cute smile!

He knows his name and understands what no means (sounds like something a 2 year old needs to know). He puts blocks into a cup then dumps them out. He likes playing with small toys such as blocks.

This sweet little guy needs a family who will get the medical care he needs and support him as he catches up developmentally. Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information on how to make him your son!

Aldon {Taiwan}

We have been thinking about Aldon for the last week and today we are finally able to share a little about him! Aldon is 11 years old and we met him in November during our Taiwan Superkids trip.  He is a polite sweet spirited boy.  His smile makes your heart happy, and yes, a little melancholy too.

We had a great developmental screening session with Aldon and he was happy to impress us with how athletic he is. He made doing push-ups and sit-ups look so easy and we all cheered him on as he did over 20 of each! His face lit up as he was asked to compete each new agility drill and completed it with ease.

Alton seemed comfortable with us and enjoyed saying “thank you” in English. He also asked where we were from in English. Aldon told us he likes school and that his favorite subject is PE since he loves to play basketball and is very athletic. His least favorite subject is social studies (I think that was the least favorite for many of us).

A few of Aldon’s favorite things are the color red, eggs, fried noodles and curry rice. He apparently enjoys a good game of Chinese chess or Monopoly every chance he gets(when he’s not shooting hoops!). Aldon also likes to spend time outside riding bikes. When asked to describe himself he says he is happy, kind and enjoys helping others.

There are many adventures to be shared with this amazing boy. Mountain trails to master, basketball games to play and lots of family time around the table enjoying good food and conversation.  Alton has older siblings, including a 13 year old brother whose adoption file is also prepared.

Interested families can contact Mary.chapman@gladney.org. And don’t forget to join the private Facebook group to see more pictures and videos.

Meet John!

My personal favorite memory of John involves the throwing and catching of balls which he thought was hilarious. Especially when he threw balls and I failed to catch them.

John is 9 years old and has cerebral palsy that involves some involuntary movement. He walks, runs, and jumps. He can feed and dress himself. He likes to play outside and especially loves to swing.

He has very strong connections with his caregivers in The Butterfly Home. He takes his time learning to know people, but forms deep connections with time.

He has difficulty communicating, but he says mama and can communicate when he wants to eat. He understands simple instructions.

John is very loved in the Butterfly Home and they are very hopeful that a family will see him and fall in love with him as they have.

Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information about this great little guy!

Family Friday!

We have matches to announce! Our favorite way to end the week!

Like and share this post to help us congratulate these excited families!

We met Aria when she was just 18 months old and she was quite the little snuggle-bunny! She loved the extra attention she got from our team and was thrilled with her little hair bow.

Excuse me? Are you my Mommy?

This gorgeous little one has Down syndrome. She is 2 years old and is described as a quiet, cuddly child. She sits independently, crawls and stands without help. She is taking steps and beginning to walk.

She feeds herself small finger foods and bangs blocks together. She responds to her name and understands simple instructions. She likes playing with blocks and dolls.

Aria has a $4,000 grant through Gladney.

This little sweetie needs a family! Could she be your daughter? Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information.

Abigail {Taiwan}

Abigail entered the room with a shy little smile on her face. She was quickly drawn to the beads we had and enjoyed making herself a lovely necklace.

Her caregiver described her as having a gentle nature and that certainly came through. She quickly and quietly did what was asked of her then looked up with a shy smile to see if we were pleased with what she did.

Abigail is 8 years old has hydrocephalus and mild anemia. She may have some developmental delays. She is receiving speech therapy and occupational therapy.

She loves to roller skate and is learning to play Japanese traditional drums. She likes order and schedule and finds it frustrating to try to do homework when too much is going on in the room.

We absolutely loved this precious, giggly little girl. She will be such a treasure to her family! Could Abigail be your daughter? Please contact mary.chapman@gladney.org for more information.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Olivia is a lovely 13-year-old girl who enjoys school and does excellent work according to her teachers. She especially enjoys writing and she writes well. Her teachers often praise her work. She also enjoys memorizing Tang poetry.

She takes care of herself and even does her own laundry each morning. She is responsible and well-liked. She lives with a foster family and her file notes that she is loved by her neighbors.

Olivia's only known need is ametropia. She likes taking pictures of others and in the file where it is supposed to list a favorite toy it says camera. Funny, that is my favorite toy too!

She has been in the orphanage since she was quite young, but her file was just prepared. She doesn't have much time! She will age out in October, meaning that she will no longer be eligible for adoption.

She sounds like such a wonderful girl! Could she be your daughter? Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information.

Orin will turn 1 next week. How about a family for his first birthday gift?!

He laughs easily, as you can see. Are you ready for this?

I warned you! You just lost your heart, didn't you? After sharing that video I kind of feel like my work here is done...

But I suppose you may want to know a little more about him. He has a couple of needs that earned him a place at The Butterfly Home. He is still there receiving amazing care, but he is doing so much better now and will flourish in a family.

Could this darling baby be your son? Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information.

I have the sweetest little 6 year old girl to introduce today!

This is Rachel.

She is described as clever and lovely. She is blind and in her file it says, "although she cannot see the colorful colors of the world she maintains a positive attitude." Is that about the nicest thing that could be said, or what?!

The person who prepared the file went to speak with her and touched her. Rachel exclaimed with surprise, "Auntie, you are wearing a ring!" She is learning Braille and is in a special school to help her learn life skills.

She communicates well and clearly and even recites poems and has been involved in performance recitations. It is noted that she memorizes things very easily. She is a quiet, thoughtful little girl.

I just can't get over how amazing she sounds! Could you help to open this beautiful little girl's world? Could she be your daughter? Please contact us at superkids@gladney.org for more information!

Kristoff Video {Taiwan}

Let's Try This Again... {SK 2017 Updated Video}

We had a little mix-up. I asked for a list of children who were matched or came home in 2017. It was a long list that was provided and I watched the little faces scrolling across my screen with awe! So many beautiful children! Then families started contacting me. My child wasn't in the video... A lot of families.

I'll tell you what happened. When I asked for a list, I got a fiscal year list rather than a calendar year list. And what a great "problem" to have! Even more children belonged in this amazing video!!

And even as I watch this with all of the added children, I am aware that these are only the Superkids placed through Gladney! There are many more that could be included if we were to add all of the families who have found their children or been helped to be more prepared to parent their children through the efforts of Superkids.

Enjoy the video!  Think of each of these lives that have been changed.

Archie {Taiwan}

Archie s a handsome 9 year old boy who describes himself as a considerate child. His foster mom agrees with him saying that even when his peers do something unkind to him he tries to explain away their behavior so that they will not get in trouble.

Archie has cortical dysplasia but does not have seizures. He has a little bit of weakness on his right side, but it does not affect him in daily life.

His favorite class in school, where he is in the 3rd grade, is computer class. His least favorite class is Mandarin. He does well in school.

He has a younger foster brother whom he loves and helps to care for. His foster mother says he is a very sweet, easy going little boy.

Could he be your son? Please contact mary.chapman@gladney.org for more information.

Happy New Year!!

2017 was a good year for us! Meet the Superkids of 2017!

Each of the children in this video came home or were matched through the advocacy efforts of Superkids in 2017. These are the Superkids matched through The Gladney Center for Adoption.
