Ferris {Taiwan}
Tuesday, February 27, 2018
The last time we saw Ferris was in May of 2016, so I was excited when I learned we would be seeing him again in November. Sweet 9 year old Ferris participated in all tasks we asked of him, even if he was a little hesitant at first. And he did great – even solving multiplication problems!
He had great agility skills and impressed us with his dribbling and passing of the basketball. When asked, he told us that PE was his favorite part of school and that he loves playing ball, particularly dodgeball – so, makes sense that he was great at our tests!
When we asked Ferris to describe himself, he stated that he is “a good kid” – I love it! He also told me that he likes remote control cars and playing board games like Monopoly. When I asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he said a police officer. His caregivers told us that he is very clever. He is a bit reserved and serious, but it sounds like he is a typical active boy when he’s in a comfortable environment.
Ferris has no medical needs. Could Ferris be your son? Could you help him realize his dream of becoming a police officer? Please email mary.chapman@gladney.org to review Ferris’ full profile.

There are two different events so that we can visit with as many people as possible!
They are planning a great evening in Austin on February 23. That is this Friday! If you can attend this event please contact mary.chapman@gladney.org. She will provide further details.
The Asia staff will also be attending a Chinese New Year party at the Gladney office in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on Sunday, February 25 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM! The cost is $40 per family or $30 per family for GFA members. Everyone is invited!
Register here for the event! This registration link will be open until Friday, but if you miss registering by then we still want you to come, so email mary.chapman@gladney.org and she will add you to the list.
There will be food, crafts, a lion dance, face painting, and other entertainment. It sounds like it is going to be a fabulous party, so invite anyone you know who might be interested in learning more about adoption!
The staff will be available to answer questions about the China and Taiwan programs and about Superkids and our role in the adoption programs. There will also be someone from the post-placement department available to answer questions.
We cannot wait to spend time with all of you!
Desi {Taiwan}
Tuesday, February 20, 2018
I was so excited when I learned that we would be meeting with Desi again during our trip in November. I first met Desi during our spring trip – he was the last kid I saw that trip and he left quite an impression. He was so fun and animated when he answered my questions, and so funny! I was practically crying from laughing so hard! So, needless to say, I was looking forward to spending more time with him.
And sweet Desi did not disappoint – he came in the room, saw me and ran to give me a big hug! Heart melting! He was happy to answer all of my questions again – and even answered in English when he could. He told me that it was fun answering my questions. When I asked him what makes him happy, he shared about going to the US as part of a summer hosting camp a few years ago. He said he wants to live in the US!
Desi is learning magic and was very proud to show us a trick where he made an eraser disappear. I can picture Desi preforming in talent shows, and possibly even growing up to be an actor, or maybe a professional magician! He has that special “spark” – this is one amazing boy.
Desi is 9 years old and has no medical needs. He would bring so much joy, fun, and adventure to a family. Could he be your son? Please emailmary.chapman@gladney.org for more info on Desi!
Of Photography Workshops and CNY
Thursday, February 15, 2018
We have been quiet for a week. It was my intent to post about a few children and tell you all about the photography workshop I was attending in Phoenix, AZ where the weather is mild and the oranges are ripe on the trees. Photography has been a big part of Superkids, so I wanted to share the workshop with you here too.
But...
The day after I arrived in Phoenix, after a swim in the heated pool and eating a sun ripened orange, I got a migraine. There were no blog posts happening then. Six days later the migraine persists though I have now traveled home to snowy Pennsylvania. (Yes, I am going to the doctor this afternoon.)
In the meantime, the New York staff and friends celebrated Chinese New Year in style at the Jing Fong restaurant in New York City.
The next few days are going to be fun as we get ready for Chinese New Year! We are preparing with a new look and some new features we can't wait to tell you all about!
Since this post is a little more personal than most I am going to sign off as...
